The Key to change starts with a daring to think different. WE ALL can change and be able to experience true prosperity when we decide to take the journey of mind renewal. The Greatest Journey one can ever take is the Journey of Self-Discovery. Life is a journey from the INSIDE-OUT.
Arrived on earth the very first day, everything was so
new to me I cried like hell. Then I came face to face with the being I was
within, whose emotional vibrations I knew too well. “This will be my place of comfort”, I said to myself, “As I explore this whole new world.”
This being, whom I was within, is a She, as I later on learned. She took me to her comfort zone and
introduced me to everyone in it. I was scared of these so many beings. A few felt
like her and a few felt different. But as long as she was with me, I felt safe
to be among these beings.
I eventually extended my comfort zone to include these
beings that she introduced me to. I also learned that these other beings that didn’t
feel like her are a He. I was also a He. Each of these beings is known by a
label and responds every time their label is called. I later on learned that
this label is known as name. I had a
name too.
By then, I had discarded my primary language (but not
totally) and adopted these beings’ language. I began to relate the relational
concepts I felt among these beings and started calling them Mother, Father,
Brother, Sister, Uncle and Aunty, Family and so on and so forth.
I was introduced to a philosophy of how to live life on
this planet earth by my Family. I was cautioned that I must strictly follow this
philosophy or else something bad will happen to me and that they will be
disappointed in me.
I was so zealous to follow the philosophy told to me that
I was so totally, 100% into it all. I participated in their Religion and
succeeded in the Education system and learned a lot of things about society and
the world and world systems that exists on this planet earth. I was living and
experiencing life.
Or was I?
A turning point happened within me. For the first time in
my life growing up, I began to question myself and everything I learned. In
fact there were a whole lot of questions I began to ask. I didn’t know or
understood why I was asking a whole lot of questions. The one question that
stood out from the rest was “Who Am I?”
Whose life am I living?
My family and society became afraid when I starting
asking “Who Am I?” They questioned me
“Have you gone mad? Have you forgotten
the philosophy we strictly told you to follow and to not question? This comfort
zone is where you belong. You are this comfort zone and this comfort zone is
you? You will surely not progress further in life and die if you leave this
comfort zone?”
I told my family, “It
is not you I am going against or questioning. It is me. I am questioning
myself. Why are you all reacting when it is not you that I am questioning? Aren’t
you your own individual and aren’t you responsible for your thoughts, beliefs,
choices, actions and destiny?"
And so, I started a revolution, not from the outside, but
from within.
I am starting a new journey to experience me and not society’s’.
Everything that we perceive as real in this universe becomes reality as mental representation. The mind plays a significant role in interpreting the external reality (world). The external environment is perceived through the five physical senses. The mind interprets and gives meaning to the physical world through the sense of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. The sensory nervous system composes of the brain, spinal cord and the five physical senses, which could also be regarded as the material extension of the mind to the physical body. The nervous system is critically important as it act as the medium of channeling and transmuting physical (material) sensations into mental-thought forms and vice-versa. This is how billions of information regarding the physical reality can be easily stored and retrieved in the memory banks of our mind. The memories are merely mental representations of our physical experience stored in the subconscious mind. Information gathered from the five senses are perceived through the conscious aspect of the mind and then stored in the subconscious. Hence, our conscious contact with the external world is nothing but the mind making sense of physical reality through the medium of nervous networking system coordinating the body to its mental counterpart. If our five physical senses were disconnected from the body, the physical world would cease existing in reality but mental existence would still prevail. Every thoughts, ideas and concepts about the material reality is an extension of mental representation - “the consciousness.”
As a matter of fact, all things and encounters in our livelihood whether favorable or unfavorable are just reflections of our own mental creation. “Your own thoughts, desires, and aspirations comprise your world, and, to you, all that there is in the universe of beauty and joy and bliss, or of ugliness and sorrow and pain, is contained within yourself.” (James Allen). Problems that are created have their roots in the mental constructs and thus, solutions should also be found in the exact place of where it was created. If solutions are thought to be outside of the mind then, it is merely an illusion as the outer world exists because of the existence of the inner world. Our mind maps the external world through representing those thoughts and images in the mental construct-memory cells. Psychologists had realized that we operate upon the world, not directly, but via a map of the world. It seems amazing that all physical reality (the three dimensional world including time-space continuum) exists via the mind (consciousness) of man interpreting it as real. If that was the case, doesn’t it mean that all situations and conditions that we encounter had their roots in the mind? Absolutely, they are mental representations that extend into physical manifestations.
We give meaning to situations and conditions due to the mental representations (maps) about physical reality. We even make it more complicated by giving names, descriptions, images and definitions to things and situations so we can have fair understanding of them in physical reality. Even such phenomena as corruption, prejudices, crime, poverty, racism etc… exists according to the meaning we give mentally causing their manifestations in physical forms. According to the universal law of cause and effect, the manifestations in physical forms are the effects of the causes in mental forms. The aim is to deal with the causes to heal the effects. Any best effort to deal directly with the effects externally are doomed to failure as it is like running through a brick wall with expectations of shattering the brick layers. If you are a person who always pursues to fight against corruption, crime, violence etc, I bet you to understand and fully embrace the principles discussed so you may heal the effects through dealing with the causes. We must also understand the law of polarity; everything is duality in nature- the opposing degree in nature (good & bad, pain & relief, war & peace etc.) If we think such situation is bad and set our focus on how bad it is, then we shall expand more of how bad it is. The required approach, is when you see things as bad or not good, change your focus on its opposite (i.e. good) and always work mentally to change its external (physical) result. See the end result as your wish by focusing on the optimistic state and keep working on that alone and not on the negative side of the coin.
The famous Mother Teresa saw evil and suffering in this world and devotes herself in sharing peace in her mission to those in need. We might believe that she was driven by the pain that cause these sufferings, however; it was the other way around-she was motivated by love-“the unconditional love.” It is through love that the universe and man was created and in order to restore the order of creation man has to embrace the same essence of which, he was created. Any other means besides would result in chaos (suffering). Therefore; if individual differences, corruption, violence, crime etc…still persist in Papua New Guinea no matter how hard we try to fight against, we might be looking and fixing our minds at the wrong side. “Change the way you look at things and the things that you look at would change.”(Dr. Wayne. W.Dyer) Also quoted, “I think today the world is upside down, and there is suffering so much because there is so very little love in the home, and in family life.”(Mother Teresa) Do bear in mind that the outer world is merely the reflection of the inner and change starts from an individual and then extends to others. Everything has its roots in the consciousness (mind), seek and you shall find.
Our wonderful mind functions as a sending and receiving station of thought and never ceases working since conception. The thoughts that enter our mind are not always recalled from our memories but are decoded from other minds around as well. It is like a radio station set to a fixed frequency (mode) and that in order to receive its signal one has to tune in to that frequency. If we are always thinking thoughts or thoughts are being impressed on our mind then, it certainly means that our mind is in motion. The mind always vibrates at various levels of frequencies (waves) whether we are aware of it or not. That’s why, every day we enter into various mental states and condition such as being; happy, worry, depress, afraid, confident, excited, romantic etc… The emotions are associated with the thoughts as they connect the mind to the body causing physiological response to mental states. Emotions can be summed up as neurological associations of thoughts. Mental theorists sometimes referred to e-motion as energy (mental energy) in motion. Every moment of our lives we never stop thinking; meaning thoughts are always being impressed upon our mind. For instance; if you attentively involved in activities, your mind might be with you or it may also roam outside projecting into the future, recalling past memories, anticipating your dreams and expectations etc… This certainly, means that we are always thinking and the only time we pause from thinking thoughts is when we are fast asleep. The moment we wake up, the thoughts began to show up on our mental screen making us seem to be like thinking machines.
On average, we usually experience more than two thousand thoughts each day and each and every one of us has our own unique way of dealing with it. We developed habits, beliefs and thought patterns of the way we deal with each thought impulse and their associated images beneath our subconscious. It can only be categorize as either we do exercise control over the thoughts or they (thoughts) control our responses to mental states (experiences). You only have a choice, to take charge of which thoughts to entertain or dismiss. The mind power Law of Control states that; “we are forever experiencing thoughts, but we have the power to either entertain or dismiss them;” (John Kehoe). However; everyday of our lives we seem to have our mind take charge of itself by thinking which thoughts it wants, how it wants us to feel, what to believe in etc… It was conditioned by us unconsciously to operate on autopilot (default) as we seem to ignore the fact that we can control it. Hence, we lose our power of control and tend to being reactive to circumstances instead of being proactive (taking control). Our mind was naturally engineered by the creator to function as a medium of exchanging thoughts (sending & receiving signals). He has also given man the power of choice (the will) to choose according to what best resonates with his heart. Our failure to embrace this key knowledge through our self imposed ignorance limits and separates us from the source as we will always be controlled by circumstances. “To be ignorant of mind and its laws is to be a child playing with fire, or a man manipulating powerful chemicals without knowing their relation to one another. “(Charles Filmore)
Finally, Papua New Guinea has now reached its 35th anniversary of independence. As a sovereign nation it is made up of citizens or individuals that inhabit it. It’s the people (humans) that give meaning to a nation and not just the bare landmass with natural surroundings. Hence; every individual plays a key role to the collective status of the nation. We cannot always control the external circumstances that we think our nation should be governed this way or that way as we cannot always control others but can give the best in controlling ourselves. Please, remember that the nation as a whole is a collective extension of every one of us, the individuals. Through the essence of knowledge and understanding of our own nature puts us in alignment with what best we can offer to others and our nation as a whole. The Journey of Self-Discovery is the best journey one can encounter. The determinant of change is in your hand.
Happy Independence Papua New Guinea and Dare to Think Different!
This is a concept that is presented in Stephen Covey’s book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Peoplethat describes how you can have control over yourself and by doing so have an influence on your surrounding environment. Many people don’t realize that they don’t have control over their external environment and try everything within their power to change it but only find that they add more frustration and stress upon themselves. If you look at the table above you will notice two circles; a smaller circle within a larger one. The smaller circle (circle two) is your circle of influence and the larger circle (circle one) is the external environment’s circle of influence. The later consists of people and circumstances outside of you.
You have within your circle of influence the following powerful tools; these are not external tools but are God given and placed within you. The proper use of these tools will determine the increase or decrease of your circle of influence.
1. The Power of INDEPENDENT WILL
2. The Power of SELF-AWARENESS
3. The Power of IMAGINATION
4. The Power of CONSCIENCE
Every day we are bombarded by pressures from our external environment and if we are not using the tools mentioned, our personality, behavior and character is shaped and become conformed to different stimulus from our external environment. There are two types of responses that determine the increase or decrease of our circle of influence in relation to our external environment. These are reactive and proactive responses. The later response is the one that when practiced and developed into a habit will have a great impact in increasing your circle of influence whilst the former, which is usually a defaulted response unconsciously used by us because we all were brought up in that reality – whenever someone meets you with violence, you must also be violent to him. Being PROACTIVE is being in control of yourself and being REACTIVE is losing control over yourself and giving up your personal power to that stimulus – whether it is a person or a situation – in the external environment. Proactive people know that there is a gap between a Stimuli and a Response and within that gap is their power and freedom to choose the right response to maintain control over their self and be above circumstances.
Change starts with me and true indeed it starts with taking control over yourself and the more you concentrate on yourself and take responsibility for your responses (being proactive) you increase your own circle of influence. The more you concentrate on taking control and maintaining control over yourself, you will find that there will not be any need for you to control your circumstances or people in your external environment.
You don’t have to believe this philosophy but what I will tell you is that the icing is on the cake. Try it out and see for yourself.
Always remember to Dare Think Different.
P.S. Have a safe and Happy Independence Day Celebrations Papua New Guinea.
Do you know that your brain has neurological pathways that store your past memories which are composed of images, sounds, words and emotions? (The Brain From Top To Bottom). Yes, it is true and scientifically proven by Neurologists. Your memory has been built during your childhood days growing up while interacting with your external surroundings. So that means every good memory and bad memory has a neurological pathway stored in your brain. Why am telling you this? Well according to that fact, what I am trying to tell you is that your behavior and personality is shaped and controlled by these neurological pathways. Stemming from these stored memories your conscious reasoning gives birth to your opinions, philosophies and beliefs about what you perceive life to be. Your current beliefs and opinions about anything in life may not be based on truth because it may be adopted from someone else learned opinion or what you observed and experienced in the past which all maybe entirely false. Basically what I am saying is that you are living life now based upon the stored emotions, images, words and sounds acquired in the past but you are not aware of it because it happens so fast. A Stimulus from the external world and a response from your neurological pathways or memory bank happens so quick sometimes you cannot be aware of it. That is the reason why we comment on some of our behaviors as happening spontaneously or unconsciously.
Using your mental ability of Self-Awareness you can identify limiting beliefs and mental patterns stored within your mind and reprogram it with success principles based on truth.
I would like to live you all to ponder upon this old zen story:
Muddy Road
Tanzan and Ekido were once travelling together down a muddy road. A heavy rain was still falling.
Coming around a bend, they met a lovely girl in a silk kimono and sash, unable to cross the intersection.
"Come on, girl," said Tanzan at once. Lifting her in his arms, he carried her over the mud.
Ekido did not speak again until that night when they reached a lodging temple. Then he no longer could restrain himself. "We monks don't go near females," he told Tanzan, "especially not young and lovely ones. It is dangerous. Why did you do that?"
"I left the girl there," said Tanzan. "Are you still carrying her?"
“Poverty Consciousness” refers to our internal state of mind regarding the notion of poverty. Here we are not discussing about the social/physical aspect of poverty such as lack of nutrition, poor hygiene, low income, or lack of access to basic needs. However, we are dealing with our inner representation of the concept of poverty that has laid the foundation of our reality. It is important to understand that poverty has its root embedded in our mind as it is a state of consciousness. The manifestation of its physical reality along with the social indicators was created and imprinted in the inner world and then being reflected through the outer reality mirror. This occurs due to the fact that; everything is first conceived by the mind as an idea and then materializes into reality. The point here is about the mental aspect of our reality which should not be mixed up with what we have understood about poverty from our socio-economic standpoint so far. We have to become fully aware of what we usually focus upon every now and then in order to conceptualize how our thoughts do affect our reality both consciously and unconsciously. The truth about our reality lies beneath our consciousness, therefore; it is imperative that it should be brought unto our lens of focus.
The poverty consciousness merely can be summed up as our attitude of “lack mentality. “It has become a habit of an average Papua New Guinean that we usually tend to focus our attention to “what we don’t have” (negative) instead of “what we do have” (positive). We had created an impression (image) in our mind that unless I have this or posses that would make me happy/satisfied. Sometimes we tend to believe that all our problems should be solved once we become such person or own this or that. We had been addicted to merely deal with the illusion of our reality that actually limit us to progress and prosper in life. Our creative mind then, tends to filter such information according to whatever image and beliefs we hold to be true in our mind. We become what we always think of as the outer reality would always mirror the inner blueprint of our consciousness. We had limited ourselves fully that we fail to focus on the broader perspective of what we already have or in the process of becoming; the positive (other side) of the same coin. We don’t usually appreciate and pay attention to what we already have as this is the key to prosperity instead; we focus on the lack of what we ought to have or become. You may have all physical and social needs that you want, however; if you still focus on what you don’t have (lack and limitation) you won’t acquire happiness and satisfaction because you have limited yourself by continually erecting brick by brick upon the walls of poverty consciousness.
For instance;if you are a committed employee earning around K500.00 per forth night working on the same routine of duties, and when its payday; you begin to feel anxious and concern about repaying your loan, paying your rent, how much will be deducted for Income Tax, meeting other demands and expenses that you completely ignore the fact to really appreciate and embrace what you’ve just earn from your commitment to work. Such situation after repetition becomes a fixed pattern of your reality in which you have created through your impulsive thoughts and emotions working accordingly. You are more likely to meet more of such experiences unless you change your mental image by focusing on the opposite of that you do not want. The outer world would always reflect the inner world because they are connected. Failure to shift to the positive state of mind limits you to your own image of reality whether you like it or not as this is the code of the universal law of attraction; “like attracts like.” This is how the law works using the above example: if two different people were given the same situation, one focuses on the optimistic side (gratitude and appreciation) and the other on the negative (lack and limitation). Both of them would reap the results that reflect what energy vibration they give out upon their focus towards the event experienced. Even though, you certainly know what the desirable outcome is, what you focus upon determines what you get. So, take heed of what you give out from your consciousness- if you usually complain of how hard life is, your reality shall reveal more of how hard it is for you to complain about. Such mental function can be so, subtle as it often operates on the unconscious level of our awareness. Sometimes we are so busy in our every day routine that we fail to realize the essence of life that we live in because we always react to the outer circumstances of our reality.
Having gratitude by appreciating and being content with what life has offered to you is the state of allowing yourself to the universal-spiritual flow of abundance and prosperity. The key is to build your reality by focusing on what best you deserve to become (prosperous) having gratitude and not giving in to the “lack mentality” (poverty consciousness). Prosperity is an inner mental state that becomes expressed on the outside as material wealth and success. Every action we take either resists or allows us to match with the law of prosperity (well-being). This can be further explained through understanding the works of the mental science theorists. Resistance is placing focus on what you would rather NOT have happening which is in essence creating and projecting a magnetic force which is drawing to you what it is that you are placing your predominant focus on or DON"T have a desire to experience. This focus can only draw more of that which you are focusing on. Gratitude on the other hand is an acceptance of things just the way they are which correlates with acceptance which in turn resonates and projects a much different resonance of energy creating a magnetic force that is conducive to attracting the "desired" outcome[.1 ]
The “Power of Gratitude” applied to the present state of being is an extremely important aspect of attracting to yourself the Abundance and Happiness that you desire and deserve in your life. The Bible also emphasizes the significance of gratitude by stating that whatever you have despite, the quantity (more or less it is); always give thanks to the Lord that you may be blessed with more to come. This doesn’t imply that it is a religious practice and works for only religious believers but, it is a law set in the order of creation (nature) and works on every person’s reality consciously and unconsciously. The sunlight doesn’t shine for only religious believers but for every one that inhibits this physical planet because it acts according to the universal law of nature. Hence; take back your power by focusing on what you really want your life to become (prosperity) and not merely reacting on the circumstances reflecting lack and limitation (poverty). We must take precaution on such matter as most of our negative self image and beliefs had created their pathways (building blocks) in our nervous system that tend to filter and limit our conscious reality, thus; working to change our reality requires conditioning our willingness to effect change inside-out. Our ignorance on that fact; keeps us stuck in the web of illusion –believing that we are the victims of circumstances even though we had the power within us to bring about change. This is a profound concept, however; I believe by understanding the mental constructs that limit our reality puts us in a better position to have control in deciding what is best for our destiny.
Finally, all fight against poverty through social and economic approach of the society should take into account the psychological and spiritual framework of how thoughts materialize to become things. The physical and social indicators are the effects that resulted from the causes within the mental /spiritual realm. Therefore; it is a must to deal with the matters at the causation level to reestablish the order of creation within the mind of man. Otherwise, all actions of managing and dealing with poverty states from the outside are doomed to failure as any attempted solution from outside-in only addressed part of the problem or might generate associated problems that may even be worse. Please, take into account that the roots of everything happening in our physical reality usually operate at the unconscious level of our mind. Dr. Robert Anthony states that; “the long-term solution to poverty, lack and limitation lies in our ability to turn our inner potential into reality-the only way we can truly heal the world is to heal ourselves first.” Albert Einstein also emphasizes that; we can never solve a problem on the same level of awareness as that at which the problem was created.
As a matter of fact, such generalization as; “Papua New Guinea, despite being blessed and rich in natural wealth and resources and yet, still under-developed and struggles over the poverty line,” may have its solution dormant in our consciousness unless we take a step to awaken our level of awareness/consciousness by harnessing the power within. Always focus on what you really want your life to be and maintain that state of mind for the better as change starts from an individual then moves out to others/community. Everyone deserves to walk in the light of prosperity and not poverty unless you choose to be in that state of consciousness. Understanding this is of great advantage if you decide to break free from the mediocre lifestyle that limits your reality.
The term Common originated in feudal England that refers to a group of people or tenants who occupy and cultivate a lord’s land that is considered as “waste”. In Medieval literature, commoners are one of three estates. The General Prologue, from the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, explores "the Medieval social theory that society was made up of three 'estates'". The Nobility were a "small hereditary aristocracy, whose mission on earth was to rule over and defend the body politic". The Church had the responsibility of "looking after the spiritual welfare of that body". Commoners "were supposed to do that work that provided for its physical needs". The social status was a division of different class and their places and occupations in Medieval society. Free Dictionary.com, gives the following definitions respectively:
com•mon•er n. 1. One of the common people. 2. A person without noble rank or title.
commoner n 1. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) a person who does not belong to the nobility.
A commoner is a person who holds no title, a member of the middle class, a person of no influence, the ordinary person, a hypothetical average man, a member of the working class (not necessarily employed); "workers of the world--unite!"
That is where “community” got its concept from. Community is a group of people united by a common something. In other words they are a group of “common people”. Examples of commoners in Papua New Guinean society would be of the working class persons, the high school drop outs roaming the streets and/or whatever status circumstances places you in society. Whether you are a lawyer, doctor, accountant, human resource manager, businessman, news editor, TV presenter, Artist, Musician, a driver or a tea-boy or a student, etc, you are all the same. You are a commoner; there is nothing different about you because of your profession or status because at the end of the day you all work and contribute toward the running of a governmental system.
Now by me saying that being common is boring might be a bit of an over statement but as a matter of fact it isn’t. There is nothing at all interesting about being common. Papua New Guinea has a lot of common people doing common things and aren’t getting anywhere. They are all stuck in their every day frustrations of trying to meet this and that and every other cares and worries in this complex 21st century lifestyle. The world is full of common babies being born into a common family who are raised up in a common culture, get a common education and end up in a common job with a common salary, accidentally falls into a common relationship and have a common wedding, have common babies and live a common life with other people of common beliefs and interests and then dies a common death and gets buried in a common grave among the common dead. How commonly boring can the world get?
And if we are to be a great nation, than being common surely is taking the road of mediocrity down the forgotten abyss of triviality. If you want to be great, deliver yourself from being a “commoner” and begin to express your uniqueness; your truest nature, find your gift and talent, develop it and be a servant to the masses; be an agent of change; be an agent for greatness. Dr Myles Munroe would always say that “you were not born to keep the mortgage going or to pay the rent or live to make a living. What a Lousy life you live…! You were born to make a difference.” Something great begins to happen when a commoner begins to discover his/her unique purpose. There is nothing more powerful than a commoner with a sense of purpose. Finding his/her purpose he/she sets out on a journey of separation from the common masses to the place of his/her unique greatness whereupon after serving the world he/she is able to live behind a set of footprints, a legacy, not as a commoner but as one of the greats that ever walked this earth.
Remember to always dare think different!!
The following inspirational video has a great message for you to think about.
The planet that we lived in is basically structured as one physical world known as earth. We perceive the world as one solid globe that facilitated life on this planet. However, the universe itself is so vast, complex and unlimited beyond our limits of imagination that we might question is there evidences of life in the outer space. The existence of the sun, moon and other planets orbiting our solar system contributes and sustained the atmospheric conditions for life on earth. The same situation could have applied for the other suns seen as stars from our planet who knows, as science is now expanding its exploration in the outer space would reveal such mysteries in the near future.
Getting back to the laws that govern our lives in this existence, there is a universal principle known as the “law of connection.” This law states that we lived simultaneously in two separate and distinct worlds i.e. the “inner world” and the “outer world” and yet both worlds are connected. The “inner world” is basically our thoughts and reactions (mental faculties) and the “outer world” is the situations and circumstances that we encounter. There is a subtle connection between these two distinct worlds that most us don’t simply realize. Both worlds are designed in a way that impacts and affects each other simultaneously. Most of the time, the outer world influences and dominates the inner world causing us to react to situations deteriorating our personal power to exercise control. For instance; if a person constantly complains even when situations can easily be dealt with, surely demonstrates the person don’t have control over situations and loses personal power of dominion. Therefore, his constant reaction to situation has developed into a subtle habit of complaining as he is the creator of his reality through repetition of his own actions and reactions.
On the other end, the inner world also potentially impacts the outer world but is not known and practiced by most people. This is the key to taking back our personal power; once being acknowledged and practiced, changes our perception to situations and exercises control and dominion in our adversities. This happens when we realize that we are not bound solely to the limits of the outer world and stop reacting constantly to situations and circumstances by becoming conscious of our inner powers. Our reality shifts in our consciousness (inner world) and not merely by what is happening in our external reality of circumstances and situations.
You cannot change and improve your life by waiting and hoping for favourable encounters to cross your paths but by shifting your consciousness to your untapped inner powers in controlling and changing your reality. Much of our day to day challenges can be resolved effortlessly by understanding this principle and make it our responsibility to practice for success in life’s challenges now and onwards. Our consciousness has been programmed by the influences of the outer world since childhood and it is now time to take a step in executing control over our circumstances as we are the masters of our reality which our destiny waits. The key is not in how the circumstance appears to be but how we react to the circumstances from our thoughts and emotions that stir subsequent response to the external stimuli.
Here is a video that will inspire you to Dare Think Different!!
“A Thought Emotionalized becomes magnetized.”- The Secret (Movie Documentary)
There are natural laws that govern the universe that science has discovered and some of which you are familiar with. These laws are immutable. Just look up into the heavens and be amazed at the perfect precision at which the planetary body revolves around the sun on its path of orbit and one can’t help to wonder that this has been going on for so many thousands of years now since man existed; nothing has changed their movements ever since. Sometimes we are so busy pursuing what we believe life is all about that we become ignorant or unconscious of the fact that we are here and alive because these laws allow our existence to be possible. Without the law of gravity, everything on earth and the universe will not exist. Without the Laws of the speed of light and the speed of sound your eyes and ears will be of no use to you. The speed of light enables you to see people and objects so that your mind can calculate the exact distance it is or they are from your reach. As a matter of fact, the speed of light is enabling you to read these very words right now. The speed of sound enables your hearing senses to make out the exact words that your friend is speaking to you or the music that you love listening to. These natural laws also govern the growth of plants, the being of animals and the production of mineral ores beneath the earth’s crust.
Humans are the epitome of God’s creation and just as there are external laws that guarantee our existence, there are also internal laws that govern how we live our lives as well. But before I go into discussing one such internal law, let us go back in time to see how these laws came into being. For science has argued and have come to a conclusion that these universal laws have to be a result of an Intelligent Being greater from which these laws came forth. Religion believes it to be the works of God to which there can be no argument against. BUT DO YOU REALLY “KNOW” how God established these laws or did you just hear your pastor or religion preach it to you? If you want to know where exactly and how it all began than let us go back to the very beginning, in the Book of Genesis. NOW, THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS TREATISE, so I will kindly urge you to let down your mental barriers and perceptions towards the Bible for it is NOT a religious book as religion has confined it to for over 2000 years now. This Book holds the secret keys to life. This Book is for YOU, for you cannot function to your fullest potential without KNOWING how you are supposed to function. In Genesis chapter one and verse two, we see that the earth was without form, and void and darkness was over the face of the deep, other translations were written as the earth was in chaos… Now this tells us that there was no order in creation. But watch what happens in verses three… Then God said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. Now there are two words that we need to point out here to give us a clear understanding; the word darkness and the word light. The original Greek and Hebrew translations of the word darkness also means without knowledge or ignorance and light can also mean wisdom or knowledge. Where there is an absence of knowledge or absence of law or the presence of ignorance, you will always find chaos and confusion and disorder. Where there is the presence of knowledge, wisdom or law you will always find perfect order and peace. Now the ensuing verses of Genesis chapter one tells us the story of creation itself, on the earth and in the heavens or universe. Now you need to really understand and grasp it if you must that the act of God speaking creation into form and into perfect order is not just an act of creation but the very WORDS He spoke was and is LAW that came forth to govern that which it was meant for. For He Himself said, the words that I speak are spirit and they are life and the words that go forth out of my mouth shall not return to me void but shall go forth and accomplish its purpose to which it was sent. His Words are Laws, immutable Laws.
Now what is this internal law that governs our being, I am sure you might be wondering by now. This Law governs the world of thoughts. “As ye sow, so shall ye reap”; “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” These may be just words to you but they are immutable laws or principles that govern your being. “So within, so without”. This Law is called THE LAW OF ATTRACTION. Man becomes what he thinks about the most. A thought emotionalized becomes magnetized. Your mind which is also known as your heart is likened to a fertile soil and your thoughts is likened to a seed. What you entertain in your mind most of the time and applying the fertilizer of emotions onto it, gives birth to its manifestation in your external world in the form of circumstances and situations. If one entertains thoughts of anger and hatred all the time, non stop, 24/7 and soon he feels it in every part of his being, he will seem to attract negative angry people and get into fights more often. If one thinks thoughts of prosperity (in any area of life) and feels it in every path of his or her being, constantly by applying his or her will to it, will soon attract prosperity into his or her life. You may not be aware of it but the situations you have attracted into your life or what situation you are now in is or are just the residual effects of your past, prolonged-chronic thoughts, emotions and actions. So with the knowledge of the existence of this law tells us that we should be more careful with how we apply our thoughts and apply it with purpose. We even have a local saying that goes “Tingting bai kilim yu” which is so true. If you think worry and illness, your body will manifest the symptoms of this chronic negative thinking. If you think health and wellbeing, your body manifests it as well. So apply your thoughts with purpose; take care of it and it will take care of you for it is your own personal genie that grants your wishes come true. There is a movie documentary that is hitting the world by storm in the area of personal development that introduces this Law of Attraction. It is titled, The Secret by the author Rhonda Byrne. For the first time in history, leading scientists, authors, philosophers, multimillionaires and entrepreneurs have come together to reveal the secret that utterly transformed their lives and the lives of those who lived it… Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein.
Thank you very much for your time and interest in seeking more knowledge on the power that lies within you; the power of your MIND.
Remember to Dare Think Different!!
Below is a preview of the movie The Secret. The Secret: 1st 20 minutes
“Society is designed to keep you conformed and not stand out.” - Dr. Myles Munroe (The Spirit of Leadership)
Welcome you all of great potential to the New Year 2010. Before I begin the continuation of the last discourse, I have a question to ask. “What do you see and where do you see yourself at the end of this year?” You don’t have to tell me your answers, just ponder on the question.
Rollo May, the distinguished psychiatrist, wrote a wonderful book called Man's Search for Himself, and in this book he says: "The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice ... it is conformity." And there you have the reason for so many failures. Conformity — people acting like everyone else, without knowing why or where they are going. We learn to read by the time we're seven. We learn to make a living by the time we're 30. Often by that time we're not only making a living, we're supporting a family. And yet by the time we're 65, we haven't learned how to become financially independent in the richest land that has ever been known. Why? We conform! Most of us are acting like the wrong percentage group — the 95% who don't succeed.
Society is designed to keep you conformed and if you don’t find your place of Independence you will always be influenced and find yourself swaying to the emotional cycle of society’s expectations. Your every decision will always be tortured with the thoughts of making sure that it will have to please society and be the same as everyone else. Life is all about growth and change and if one doesn’t follow this order of nature will certainly die out. You can still be in a society but not necessarily of it. There are people who were regarded as “the misfits” of society; the round pegs in square holes. They are the ones that looked beyond a blank canvass and saw a work of art. History talks about these people who dared to go beyond society’s conventional way of thinking. The renaissance and industrial revolution was started by these people, without whom you wouldn’t enjoy the benefits of their work as you do now. If it wasn’t for one of such people, you would still think that the Earth is the center of the Universe. Copernicus, a renowned thinker and philosopher, was ridiculed by his society back then for he claimed that the Sun and not the earth was the center of the Universe. Thomas Edison was considered mentally insane during his time because the “crazy” person was seen several times flying a kite during thunder storms but nonetheless his crazy endeavor led to the discovery of electricity.
The Matrix movie tells a clear and interesting concept that resembles the world today. There are two types of people in the world today that the movie depicts; those who live life by default and at the hands of fate and there are those who don’t like the idea of fate and who would rather be the controller and master of their own life. Which group do you belong to? Now many of you who have read my other discourses may think that I have something against following the advice of “getting an education, find a secure job and settle down”. NO I DON’T have anything against that advice but what I am trying to point out is the MENTALITY developed and set by this conventional norm. Dr. Myles Munroe went to Malaysia one time for a business meeting with some Asian business men and during a lunch-break one of the Asian businessman asked him this question: “Dr. Munroe, why is it that many people of your skin pigmentation find it hard to make it well in life and live a life of prosperity and abundance?” Before Dr. Munroe could give an answer, the Asian answered his own question. “You see, this is what I have observed between your people and my people. An Asian can enter into a country dead broke and the first thing he will look for is NOT a Job, which your people will do. Instead he will seek to start a business.” Many Papua New Guineans have this limited mentality of working for somebody for the rest of their working life, and can’t wait for retirement, instead of working towards having others to work for you.
There is more to life than what you are now seeing!!
Have a Great Week and always remember to DARE THINK DIFFERENT.
“You cannot change a society you are a part of.”- Dr. Myles Munroe (The Spirit of Leadership)
Greetings once again to you all Great people of a unique and vast potential. If it is your first time to read this week’s blog than PNGDTD warmly welcomes you. If you have missed out on the previous blog postings you can always go to the group’s blog site http://pngdarethinkdifferent.blogspot.com/. The aim of the blogs are not to brain wash you with philosophical ideologies but rather act as a mirror in which you reflect on your own life experiences and everyday activities by way of stimulating your mental capability of SELF-ANALYSIS or self-awareness, of which the majority of us rarely engage in. YOU have it WITHIN yourself this 3 pound “mass of jelly” that you can hold in the palm of your hand that has the capability to contemplate the vastness of the interstellar space, it can contemplate the meaning of infinity and it can contemplate itself contemplating on the meaning of infinity. And there is this peculiar recursive quality that we call SELF-AWARENESS which neurologists think is the “Holy-grail” of neuroscience. In short, what I mean to say is YOUR MIND is the most POWERFUL tool that you possess for the creation of the desired outcomes for your life. The onus is on us to discover and learn to use it!
In Last week’s discourse, we looked at the power and influence of belief that governs the way we behave. For one to change, the journey begins in one’s thoughts, one’s own mentality. We have been raced up in a society that thought us HOW TO THINK, HOW TO FEEL, HOW TO TALK and HOW TO ACT. To get a better understanding of this discourse it will be fitting to point out clearly what a SOCIETY constitutes of herein. Society can mean the following collectively or individually:
1) Your Family 2) Your Friends and peer groups 3) Your spouse, or boyfriend, or girlfriend 4) The education system 5) Your ethnic group 6) Religion 7) Government
For this week’s discourse we will try to give reason as to why society is so adamant that we CONFORM to its standards and NOT STANDOUT. Let me give you a typical Papua New Guinean illustration of what I mean by that statement. I am absolutely certain that you have heard this drummed into your heads when growing up, “Get a good education, go to University, graduate with a degree, find a reputable company to secure you employment and has a good salary package, find a house and settle down”, or something closer to that degree. If I am wrong than you don’t have to read further. Just close this blog and go back to doing what you are accustomed to doing. But if I am right than I do hope you want me to point out the impact that that philosophy has on us. If so than please read on. That philosophy has two impacts that I can point out in our society today. Firstly, the majority of us who have followed the advice successfully are seeing ourselves still struggling to leave from pay-check to pay-check, accept for a certain few who have learnt to harness the power of making money work for them. Even though we have managed to gain a secured job with a good paying salary but still we face the same dilemma as all the other working class; More Taxes, Increase in Expenses, More Mortgage, Increase in money borrowing from Financial Loan companies and or informal money lenders, etc. We are still within the sphere of “survival”. Secondly, there are those whom have gave up in their efforts to live up to society’s expectations and have adversely reacted (because of their deeper, unconscious insecurities stemming from their deeper need to belong) by engaging in criminal, self-devaluing and illegal activities or following yet another one of society’s advice to “Go back to the village where there is land to plant gardens, forest to hunt for meat and river for food and drink”. Whether you fall in the category of the first group of people or the second, the end result is the same for both. WE all are still at the level of “survival”. But yet one cannot rule out the fact that deep down in the recess of our souls, we all feel a deeper sense of wanting to make sense and finding purpose for our existence. “THERE’S GOT TO BE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS??” How can we possibly discover that when we are totally engaged in living up to society’s expectations? We are still conformed or part of society. And the saddest part and most destructive behavior is that society will never allow you to Stand Out. Because the moment you do they will seem to not know you anymore and consider you as an outcast or in the pidgin language we say, “long long man or meri!” And that behavior will cause us to still hold on to society because we have already had this preconceived idea that our livelihood and wellbeing or sense of security depends entirely on the whole. Whatever the society thinks, says and does is always right and true; that in itself can be based on a True Philosophy or a False Philosophy of which gives rise to our belief systems which governs the way we live. Myles Munroe made a profound statement in his Spirit of Leadership seminar and I quote: “You cannot change a society you are a part of.” You cannot live beyond the life of “survival” if you’re still among the crowd. I will have to end here because already I have so much information in one posting for you to mentally digest. Do join me in the next posting where I will continue on the same topic of discourse.
Have a Great Week and always remember to DARE THINK DIFFERENT.
Cheers!

If you find yourself reading this week’s PNGDTD group blog than I should commend you on that. It shows that you REALLY have it within you the DESIRE to seek knowledge and understanding for the purpose of personal growth and CHANGE.
Have you ever asked yourself the following questions? ”Why is there so much injustice in this world?” “Why is it that my country is so Rich with natural resources but yet we haven’t got much to show for it?” “Why is it that I have to wake up every morning to go to a job I am passionate about or hate? “Why is it that I prefer this over that?” “Why do my parents and society always advise me to go to school, graduate and find a secure job?” “Why is it that I pay 50toea bus fare for a short distance instead of 80toea full fare?” “Why do this certain group of people act this way and the other acts totally different?” “Why do the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poor?”
Last week’s discourse was on the topic “REPENT” or “REPENTANCE” of which I mentioned that the word is NOT a religious word and neither the Bible a religious book. The meaning of the word means to completely CHANGE the way you have been accustomed to THINK; thinking TOTALLY different from society’s conventional way of thinking.
This week’s discourse will look at how BELIEFS are formed and how they govern the way we THINK, FEEL, and DO. Beliefs are formed initially by our human psychological need to find identity and a sense of belongingness. From the infant stage to the adult stage of growth, our parents, society and the world were responsible for instilling in us our current beliefs whether we are consciously, or unconsciously, aware of them or not. Beliefs are based on personal PHILOSOPHIES or mass Philosophies that are perceived to be true. This then becomes the basis by which we respond to external stimulus. The problem with this is that our Belief can be based on REAL TRUTH or FALSE Philosophy. The later arises out of a lack of knowledge and understanding or rather just plain ignorance to seeking truth about something. And that is the Dilemma that Papua New Guinea and most third world nations like us are in. That is the reason why you will always be advised and advise others to get an education and find a secure job as a “modern day slave” in somebody else’s system of wealth creation and settle for a mediocre life. That is the reason why you will still pay 50toea from Gerehu to Waigani instead of the value of the service being provided which is worth 80toea. That is why you will still complain that Politicians are corrupt and are not looking out for the best interest of the country. That is the reason why you will still focus on your external environment and complain that if only the society gets rid off their negative mentality, than I will find inner peace and assurance. That is the reason why Papua New Guinea’s economy is governed by a lack mentality. We have been educated by a philosophy that stresses that ‘there are Scarce Resources available to meet the unlimited wants of consumers’. And as a result an economic system was designed to manipulate and control people’s consumption behavior for the sole purpose of profits and personal gain; the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. We have been educated by society that money doesn’t grow on trees, the more you spend or give, the less money you will have left and religion preaches that ‘money is the root of all evil’ which are all philosophies of lack that make up our belief systems which govern the way we behave.
Therefore, beliefs are very dangerous because false beliefs can cause us to kill and destroy ourselves, reducing the value of human life to a jelly-fish that evolved into a sophisticated monkey. DO YOU WANT CHANGE to happen in your life? If you said YES, than you need to identify and get rid of your negative beliefs and replace them with beliefs that are based on REAL truth and facts. HOW DO I DO THAT? You may ask. Well, I would advise you to PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to your negative emotional responses and reactions towards stimuli from your external environment; whether it is from your family members, work colleagues, friends and even total strangers, etc… When this happens ask yourself this Question, “Why am I acting this way?” and sure enough as you ponder more on this self inquiry you will be amazed at unearthing deeply rooted negative beliefs that are the determinants of your actions.
If you have read this blog this far, than you really are serious about change and of which I commend you on that. Keep reading PNGDTD blog to find out what role the mind plays in personal change and housing and programming beliefs.
I bid you all a great week with these words… “Society won’t change unless YOU concentrate on changing yourself. You don’t need to effort on changing your external realities. Change yourself and the external realities will gradually correspond to the nature of your song.”
When we hear or see the word "Repent", quickly our mind associates it with Church, Religion and/or to be more specific, Christianity. That is the very reason why most of us (PNGeans) react and put up defensive walls when we hear this word spoken to us. This can simply be explained by the lack of proper understanding as to the real meaning of the word itself.
First of all, let me put your mind at ease by detaching the word from its religious connotation. The word "Repent" or "Repentance" is NOT a Religious term. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most dynamic mechanism for personal development and growth and personal fulfillment. Another illusion that needs to be pointed out and made clear to you is that the Bible itself is NOT a Religious book also. The Bible is one of history's most greatest, divinely inspired Book about personal & spiritual development that has ever been written and out of which every other personal development books stems from. What does the word mean? you may ask. The word appears several times in the Old Testament and several times in the new Testament.. In the Old Testament, the word "repentance" is translated from the Hebrew word "SHUBE", which means to turn back... from a way that will lead to destruction...back to the part that leads to happiness and joy, of which you were initially on before you turned astray. In the New Testament, the Greek word "METANEOEO" was used but still maintained the concept of its meaning as with its Hebrew counterpart, "SHUBE" of which it was translated from. Without going into detailed specifics, "METANEOEO" translated into English simply means A COMPLETE CHANGE OF THINKING. So simply put, the word REPENT or REPENTANCE means to change the way you have been accustomed to think. Paul so eloquently defined the meaning of repentance in Romans Chapter 12, Verse 2: "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...
So What does this have to do with Change? It has everything to do with change. In the very word lies the Secret, the ultimate KEY to change. The Mind has to be consciously ridded off of its negative and destructive thought patterns and "reprogrammed" with life transforming thought patterns so that it will lead to an outward expression of happiness, joy, fulfillment, prosperity and living life to it fullest as it was originally intended to be.
And so I end here with a message to all my PNGean fellowmen and women: Our current mass ATTITUDE or mass MINDSET are of poverty and lack and victimization. These mindsets are very destructive and the reason behind the "hiccups" in our onward progress into civilized prosperity and abundance to be experienced in every area of our lives.
